Week 3 in Calpe
Everything has continued to go well here in Calpe. We finished our second week here, and moved from our first apartment right on center of the beach, to a new one about a mile down the coast near the port and marina, at the base of the big rock that towers over Calpe. Now we are about two blocks inland, but up on the 9th floor so we have quite the view out to the south over the ocean.
Aside from eating and watching the sunset, we're both setting into pretty regular routines as Norma gets a good long daily walk in, and I'm riding a out 50ish miles every other morning with a nice group from the local cycling cafe. That keeps us pretty busy most days! We've also been regularly getting in a hike along one of the coastal trails, or up into the mountains. The trail systems here are remarkably extensive, and we really enjoy it.
Finally, this weekend we went to a birthday party for the wife of one of the guys who I've been riding bikes with. We all met up (a group of 10) at a really nice local restaurant and enjoyed quite the feast! They served a special 6 course vegan tasting menu that was superb. While neither Norma nor I are vegan, we were both impressed by the diverse flavors and different takes on a number of traditional Spanish dishes, including one of our favorites, an Asturian bean stew called Fabada. Delicious!! We're looking forward to more opportunities to get a bit more involved socially like this, and it was great to get to know everyone here a bit more in a non-bike setting as well... It's always interesting to see what everyone looks like in normal clothing too!
So... That's about it for now from the sunny Costa Blanca.
Cheers!
